July 13th Wakeboarding Camp!
July 13th - 17th 2009

The first wakeboarding camp of the season is now completed and it was a fun and eventful week on the water for all.

This summer Phat Wakes was pleased to announce that world renowned, professional wakeskater, Ryan Doyle had agreed to coach the summer wake camps in 2009. Each student received direct coaching from Ryan and left with a signed copy of SBC Wakeboard Magazine, currently on stands featuring Ryan’s latest trip to The Cayman Islands.

Throughout the week all students had a great time. Each progressed their skills on the water and we were all thankful for amazing weather all week.

Thank you to all who attended and we look forward to seeing everyone again next season.

First Wakeboarding Camp of 2009

This coming Monday is the beginning of the first Wakeboarding Camp of 2009 here at Phat Wakes Wakeboarding School.

The camp will run from Monday July 13th 2009 to Friday July 17th 2009.

At this time we have a great group of students currently reserved to make it a great week of fun on the water!

There are minimal spots still remaining therefore we welcome last minute reservation for the camp or if a spot is open students looking to only participate for a day or days less than the full 5 day camp would have the opportunity to do so at that time.

For more information please see http://www.phatwakes.com/wakeboarding/kids-wakeboard-camp.html or call Phat Wakes at 705-429-9991.

Lake Hyco, NC
Garry and Emily from Sattelyte Wakeskates

Phat Wakes News, April 2009.

General note:

We are currently working behind the scenes to update the website for the 2009 season and establish the 2009 Kids Wake Camp dates…

News:

Another winter has come and gone with the 2009 summer season quickly approaching…

Although the snow and ice may be gone from our river and lakes the water is still unfortunately quite cold at the moment. It is this time of year when wakeboarder's and wakeskater's take part in the common conversation and discussion of wishing there was such a thing as a heated lake. Thankfully there is and we are happy to inform you of a great wakeboarding location not far from Ontario named Lake Hyco.

Phat Wakes recently joined Sattelyte Wakeskates (www.sattelyte.com) to attend the annual Easter Season Open at Lake Hyco, North Carolina. The weekend is hosted by the "End of the Rope Gang" (www.endofropegang.com) and is truly a great weekend of fun on the water.

Throughout the weekend the weather was incredible and the heated lake provided water temperatures in the high 70's and 80's… Other highlights included calm water, good times with good friends and great hospitality. Locals provided a large barbeque dinner to riders on the Friday night followed by a relaxing fire at the local board shop next door. Saturday consisted of holding onto one of many rope and handles tied to various anchored wakeboarding boards while floating in a hot springs type setting current known as the "hot spot". When not socializing at the hot spot there was plenty of opportunities to participate in wakeboarding, wakeskating, or wakesurfing on the lake throughout the weekend and Saturday night was host to a large gathering at the local watering hole.

Lake Hyco is used as a cooling reservoir for a steam electric generating plant which intern heats the water 365 days of the year. Now a day's there are many nice homes and cottages on the lake with an active wakeboarding community. It is located approximately 12 hours from Toronto and has a number of accommodation possibilities including a great campground on the lake.

Special thanks to Gavin Jocius, Mark Megarity and Cary K for accommodation, boat sets and photos!!!
